Neuroanatomical Labeling Methods
This NITRC Resource was created to host descriptions of protocols, definitions, and "rules of thumb" for the reliable identification and localization of neuroanatomical regions of interest and discussions of best practices in brain labeling.
The initial focus here is on assigning labels to voxels of structural MRI brain scans.
Neuroanatomy is not easy, and there is not enough room in an academic paper to describe everything that is necessary to reproduce methods to delineate regions of interest. But labeling neuroanatomy is important for basic brain science and is necessary in any functional analysis.
As Joseph Devlin and Russell Poldrack point out in "In praise of tedious anatomy" (full text), not everyone can be an expert in all of the details, so we hope that this public Wiki can be a place to quickly find good answers.
