Stitching appends many blank z slices to the result: does this change the scaling?

Detailed description

Each of my tiles has 563 slices, (z) but after stitching the tiles, the output shows 1009 Slices (z) . I do not understand where the extra z slices are coming from, and whether it changes the display scale in Z.
