Best practices for using Clinician Consensus vs. KSADS and handling confidence levels

Hello HBN community,

I am currently working with the HBN diagnostic data and defining clinical groups for my analysis.

I have two main questions:

1. Is it the standard and accepted practice to rely on the Diagnosis_ClinicianConsensus variables rather than the raw/computational KSADS variables (such as Diagnosis_KSADS_D/P/T or KSADS_C/P) when assigning final diagnoses for analysis?

2. Assuming the Clinician Consensus is the preferred variable, what is the accepted practice for handling the diagnostic confidence levels (Confirmed, Presumptive, Requires Confirmation, and Rule-out)?

a. Should we filter diagnoses based on these levels to ensure diagnostic accuracy?

b. I noticed a significant number of missing values (NAs) in the Confirmed and Presumptive columns for valid diagnoses. Given this, is it best practice to simply filter out diagnoses explicitly marked as RC or Rule-out (excluding them from the patient group)?

c. As a reference point, how was this handled in the foundational Alexander et al. (2017) paper? Did the reported sample sizes include all consensus diagnoses regardless of their confidence levels? Or was a specific filtering logic applied?

Thank you very much in advance,

Best regards,

Tal

MRI Tracking 'Clinical Impression' information

Hi HBN team,

I had a question regarding the “Clinical Impression” field in the MRI Tracking file. I noticed that this variable contains three possible values, and for my analyses I plan to include participants with a value of 1 (within normal limits). To describe this criterion accurately in my methods, I was hoping to better understand how this field was determined.

Could you clarify how the Clinical Impression was evaluated in HBN data (for example, whether it was assessed by a neuroradiologist, a study clinician, or through another review process)?

Thank you very much for your time and help!

Hi Nicole,

this paper uses a subset of HBN actigraphy data that CMI shared for the Kaggle competition on Problematic Internet Use organized this year. You can find more information and the dataset at: https://www.kaggle.com/competitions/child-mind-institute-problematic-internet-use

Accelerometer data: not released on LORIS, but new paper uses data

A new paper was released that uses HBN accelerometry data:

https://cdn-uploads.piazza.com/paste/lilzy5gz9o812f/05c4e8a01d4d0277e25c84339b0db3cab71c3e12760a07d1eee92664d348005e/Team_47_proposal__Copy__(2).pdf

However, this accelerometry data is not available on HBN or LORIS.

Unsure how the authors were able to access this data - could someone please advise?
