&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;Managing scientific data has been identified as one of the most important emerging needs by the scientific community. In the mean time, the ability for companies to manage large amounts of datasets is now considered as a key factor for innovation. The private sector now commonly referred this trend by the term “Big Data”. In Research we used to speak about e-Science, which designate computationally intensive science. Both terms deal with the concept that science and enterprises are now progressing in a data intensive environment, with datasets that exceeds the processing capacity of conventional database systems and come from many different sources. Big Data sizes are a constantly moving target currently ranging from a few dozen terabytes to many petabytes of data in a single data set and the difficulties include capture, storage, search, sharing, analytics and visualizing. In that context, research and Innovation will not only depend on new data center facilities and new cloud computing infrastructures but also on tools, standards and people able to manage the workflows of data from their capture and storage to their analysis, visualisation and sharing. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Objectives&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;span&gt;Bring together all stakeholders working in the area of big data in science, e-science, data-intensive research;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;span&gt;Learn about the new research projects, collaborations and policies;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;span&gt;Share views on infrastructures, projects, policy adn regulatory questions (national and European);&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;span&gt;Explore possibilities of collaborations&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Within the Embassy, The Science and Technology Department's missions include: a continuous watch of science policy, scientific and technological activities in the United Kingdom; the promotion of scientific and technological collaborations between France and the United Kingdom, and the promotion of excellent French science&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The Deparrtment also supports the co-operations between universities of both countries including student mobility, in cooperation with the Embassy Culture Department.&lt;/p&gt;
