Hi Pierre,
I've seen framings of wooden planks on a recent exhibition in San
Francisco made by the artist himself. Very beautiful and cheap.
Basically, the planks were mounted with 90 degree angle to the image
plane, sort of giving the painting a distance from the wall. In
addition to the esthetic aspect, this way the 4 sides can be attached
to each other very easily with nails (i.e. no 45 degree cutting of the
wood is necessary, as would normally be the case if the planks were
mounted laying in the same plane as the painting).
Does my description make sense? Otherwise I can try to explain better.
Best,
Sepideh
