Hello Hubs!
We are about to go live with the judge voting for the art exhibition. Would you please follow the instructions and rank the art pieces? This is a dry run before we send everything to non-hub judges, but your vote counts too! Specifically please follow the instructions below and rank the images. Please let me know of any technical difficulties or other problems that your perceive with the instructions and the web-based display of the various art pieces.
I would like to send the instructions to other judges tomorrow, so any comments that you could provide sooner than that would be appreciated.
Regards,
Cameron

Thank you for agreeing to judge the 2011 Brain Art Competition. This email contains the information that you will use to judge the different entries. Information about the competition can be found here: http://neurobureau.projects.nitrc.org/BrainArt/Competition.html.
There are four categories, and we will be giving an award for first place in each. The categories are: Best 3-Dimensional Brain Rendering, Best Representation of the Human Connectome, Best Abstract Brain Illustration and Best Humorous Brain Illustration. While 3 of the four of these are fairly straight forward, the connectome category may require a little explanation for some of you. A good deal of neuroscience research involves understand how the brain is "wired", and a connectome is a comprehensive map of neural connections in the brain (I stole that from wikipedia :)). Visualizing connectomes is particularly challenging and this category represents various attempts at this goal.
We have 55 submissions in these four different categories. All of the different submissions can be viewed here: http://www.neurobureau.org/BrainArt/Gallery.html. This website is for judging only, please do not share it with anyone. After judging has been completed, the web page will be updated with the artists names, and made publicly available.
Attached is an excel spreadsheet that we would like for you to use for judging. Please rank the top submissions for each your category, with a rank of "1" considered the best, and the other ranks descending from there. Since the different categories contain different numbers of images, we are asking you to rank a different number of images of each. Please rank the top two of the five entries for 3D, the top 3 of the 8 entries for the connectome, the best 10 of the 28 for abstract, and the top 5 of the 14 submissions for humorous. Once we receive the rankings we will use a modified Borda count procedure to decide the winners.
We have attempted to anonymize the entries, but as you will quickly notice, this would have required modifying some of the submissions. Please let us know if you feel like you have any conflicts of interests.
In brief:
Entries can be viewed at: http://www.neurobureau.org/BrainArt/Gallery.html
Please provide the following rankings per category, a rank of 1 is "best"
3D: rank 2 of 5
Connectome: rank 3 of 8
Abstract: rank 10 of 28
Humorous: rank 5 of 14
We are planning to announce the winners at the Cirque du Cerveau gala at the Musée National des Beaux-Arts du Québec on Tuesday June 28th. Please come and attend the party!
We would like to include a list of the judges on our web page. Would you be willing for us to list you as a judge? Would you prefer to remain anonymous?
Thank you very much for your time.
Regards,
Cameron Craddock and Daniel Margulies
