Cannot externalize paramvolumecollection

Detailed description

To whom it may concern,

I am not able to run from the command line any module that outputs a paramvolumecollection. The modules have an option for file names to be written, but no matter what I put for those file names (relative paths, absolute paths, random characters, single file names, multiple file names, etc) no files are ever created anywhere that I can find them.
