Minimal cross-sectional area
Hello,
I`m a postgraduate student and I`m doing a research about effect of orthognathic surgery on pharyngeal airway space. I have 3D models in different times of pharyngeal airway space saved in *.vtk file and i need to calculate the minimum cross-sectional area of these models. Can someone please help me, how to easily measure this cross-sectional area and how to use software SPHARM on this project? What setting should I use and where can I find the result?
Thank you for your help.
Best Regards

RE: Minimal cross-sectional area
Hi Ondrej,

Thank you for your interest in SPHARM.
I suggest that you get started by trying SPHARM-PDM using the example data provided in the documentation section, following the steps indicated in the tutorial. The tutorial provides information on how to compute the cross-sectional area measure we used in the paper you attached.

Example data: https://www.nitrc.org/docman/view.php/308/1981/SPHARM_Tutorial_Data_July2015.zip
Tutorial: https://www.nitrc.org/docman/view.php/308/1982/SPHARM-PDM_Tutorial_July2015.pdf

I hope this helps.
Best,

Beatriz
