RE: Toolbox reference
Dear Guilherme,

Thank you for your query. Please find below answers to your questions.

1) Should I call it "NIRS-SPM" or "SPM for fNIRS"? ...

>> I am sorry for confusing you. It depends on which toolbox you are using. We would appreciate it if you could call the toolbox (released from this website) the SPM for fNIRS toolbox.

The SPM for fNIRS toolbox has been written in new codes so that (i) output file of the SPM for fNIRS toolbox (eg, SPM.mat) is fully compatible with the SPM software, and (ii) fNIRS users can use the SPM for fNIRS toolbox for the first-level analysis and then use the SPM12 for the second-level analysis and dynamic causal modelling.

2) On what concerns software release, do you recommend adding any particular date information to it in the reference?

>> The SPM for fNIRS toolbox has been released on the 10th September, 2015.

3) What would be the best publication reference for it?

>> The SPM for fNIRS toolbox consists of functions written by several authors. Please refer to the toolbox manual for finding articles related to each part of the toolbox: https://www.nitrc.org/docman/view.php/965/1995/manual_spm_fnirs.pdf

A recent paper titled "Sensor space group analysis for fNIRS data" focuses on how individual contrast images can be generated in a canonical scalp surface, and these results can be applied to the random-effects analysis for inferring population effects from fNIRS data.

Best wishes,

Dear Sungho,

I have been using your toolbox for different purposes and I would like to make the appropriate references to it. For that, I would like to ask you the following:

1) Should I call it "NIRS-SPM" or "SPM for fNIRS"? The Society for fNIRS had early this year announced in its website this toolbox as an update of NIRS-SPM (http://fnirs.org/resources/software/), but I am not sure if it should be referenced with another name (e.g. "SPM for fNIRS") in order to be distinguished from its previous version.

2) On what concerns software release, do you recommend adding any particular date information to it in the reference?

3) And what would be the best publication reference for it? So far I had included the NIRS-SPM paper (Ye et al 2009) in my drafts, but now I've just seen in the summary of the NITRC page for this toolbox that the suggested reference would rather be the paper on sensor space group analysis published earlier this year.

I just wanted to clarify the points outlined above in order to avoid any misunderstanding between toolboxes, versions and publications.

Sincerely,
Guilherme
