Ha, sorry I did not notice my previous post seemed to had been severely cropped!! 

Unfortunately I was not yet able to replicate your error. Could you please help me debug this by doing the following?:

1. type in Matlab command window:
  dbstop in spm_normalise at 153

2. run your preprocessing step. At some point (before an error) the script will stop and you will get a prompt "K>>" in Matlab command window. Then type in the command window the following:
  disp(char({VF.fname}))

3. then type "dbcont" (without the quotes) and repeat step 2 if necessary until you get the same error message as before, and send me the output of the above "disp..." commands
