Extract sequence from Siemens IMA (DICOM)
Is there a tool to extract a specific sequence from an IMA (DICOM)
file series fetched from a Siemens MRI scanner?
Background:
When I export multiple sequences from a Siemens Trio scanner to an USB stick, I get multiple IMA files that are not named after the sequences. Those files just have a filename with a continuously number. One can't see which file belongs to which sequence. Is there a tool that loads those files and let me extract a specific sequence to DICOM format (in a different folder). I tried many DICOM viewers, but they don't support any exporting to DICOM.

DicomBrowser (also here) will do that for you. Start the program, open the directory
containing all of your files, and you'll get a listing on the left
of the patient/study/series hierarchy. Select on the left just the
series you want and use the Save operation (with "Write only
selected files") to save those files to a new directory. (There's a
small weirdness in the UI that you can't create a new directory at
that point. I'll look into fixing that, but in the meantime you'll
need to create a new directory yourself, using the command line or
Explorer or the Finder or whatever makes sense on your computer.)

RE: Extract sequence from Siemens IMA (DICOM)
Hi,
If you use Windows, you can try DicomSorter[1]. This program sorts your IMA files into each sequence, that will do what you want, I think.
If you use Linux/MacOSX, they now provide a shell script[2]. You need DCMTK though.
Hope this helps,
Kiyotaka

> Kai, I'm responding to this message I got from browsing at the
NITRC page. I am not a researcher, I'm a composer actually, so I
don't think I have any thing of relevance to comment on this forum
(for the moment).

RE: Extract sequence from Siemens IMA (DICOM)
Dear Kai,
Did you send dicom to USB directly via "Transfer --> Export to Off-line" menu of scanner?
If you select "Transfer --> Export to Off-line" menu, then a small window will be appeared.
At that moment, if you select "C:/MedCom/User" or "~~CDR_OFFLINE" option, then the dicom files will be saved on local hard drive of Siemens workstation.
In this case, dicom files(IMA) are not separated each series, as you mentioned.
But, you can select USB instead "C:/MedCom/User" option.
Then, the saved dataset in your USB will be separated series by series automatically.
You do not need to do additional work for deviding all series.
I hope this will be helpful for you.

RE: Extract sequence from Siemens IMA (DICOM)
If you just wanna common use, such as extracting sequence from
Siemens IMA (DICOM). I don't suggest you buy some expensive
so-called professional softwares.
For myself, I prefer to those DICOM reader SDKs whose processing way is much simpler and faster.
Or you can just try the free trials on the web. However, the free ones do not have so many functions.
It's quite confusing...Right?
But if you are looking for professional help, the professional software is always the best choice.
Best regards
