weighting covariates for sample size?
Hi!
When covarying the meta-analyses for certain variables (e..g age), should I weigh this covariate for sample size or will E-SDM take this into account?
Thanks!!

RE: weighting covariates for sample size?
Dear Hilde, ES-SDM already takes sample size into account, don't worry  ;-)

RE: weighting covariates for sample size?
Hi Hilde,

I noticed your post on this. To clarify, did you include age as a filter term in your meta-analysis or at a different level? Joaquim, maybe you could advise on this?

Best wishes

RE: weighting covariates for sample size?
Dear Jack,

I'm not sure if I understand the question. SDM conducts a rather standard random-effects meta-analysis based on effect-sizes, and thus:
- Independently of the analysis (mean, meta-regression, etcetera), each study receives a weight depending on the size of its sample(s) (as well as on its within-study variability and on the between-study heterogeneity).
- Regressors used in meta-regressions (e.g. age) must be one number per study (e.g. the mean age of the participants of the study).

The use of a filter is just equivalent to a subgroup meta-analysis, i.e. as if the remaining studies would not exist.

Hope this helps,

Joaquim
