Octave vs Matlab vs Pythonfor Neuroimaging research
Hi,
I would be very surprised if:
a) Python had not made up a lot of ground compared to Matlab, or
b) Matlab was not still being used, albeit less or
c) Octave had increased much relative to Matlab.
Python is growing rapidly in science generally:

It has many advantages over Matlab as a programming language for
scientists, including the fact that it is completely free.
I've never been very attracted to Octave, even my Matlab days, because
it didn't seem very compelling to switch to something that was nearly,
but not quite the same as Matlab. Python was a bigger leap, but with
more obvious attractions.
Cheers,
Matthew
