Hi Olivier,
If I recall correctly, the UniqueID was propagated to the data array level because one could potentially refer to these array from elsewhere. For example, say a surface has a set of coordinates for each node. An example of that would be a surface with an evolving geometry. You could refer to that set of coordinate data arrays by specifying a set of UniqueIDs.
