Science & Engineering Festival Expo on the National Mall and Freedom Plaza
Explore the Science & Engineering Festival Expo on the National Mall and Freedom Plaza!

The Science & Engineering Festival Expo will be held October 23 and 24 from 10am-5:30pm on the National Mall and Freedom Plaza. The two-day Expo is the culmination of a week long Festival where over 500 science & engineering organizations will present themselves with hands-on, fun science activities to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. The Expo is free, open to the public, and includes 1,500 interactive exhibits and 75 stage shows, including a performance by Dr. Collins at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 24th. NIH has numerous activities planned in two large tents in both locations over the weekend. Twenty-three ICs and five OD offices are representing NIH at the Expo. NIBIB is planning to participate in three activities in the NIH tent space on Saturday, October 23rd.

12:00 pm – 1:30 pm Who Wants to be a Bioengineer? (Extramural Staff)
A game show to learn about bioengineering and see how you and your team can score the most points by separating science from science fiction.

Freedom Plaza
10:00 am - 1:30 pm Video Games to Image-Guided Surgery (NIBIB Grantee: Dr. Kevin Clearly)
Did you ever wonder what it was like to perform minimally-invasive surgery? This demonstration features an image-guided surgery system that you can use to simulate a surgical procedure on a dummy. Test your surgical skills and see if you can find the target anatomy.

2:00 pm - 5:30 pm Infrared Imaging: Seeing the Invisible (Intramural Staff)
Come learn about biomedical imaging and see the invisible. In this activity spectators can see how infrared imaging cameras can be used for medical tests.
