Most vendors have a software trial option which you should be able to request. You should find out who your Siemens (sales) representative is, as they can carry on the discussion with your engineers about what you can/should have. As far as internet connectivity, I do not know the answer, but many systems can download software and load it via USB or DVD.
The distinction between clinical and research use of the sequences should not be hard to explain.
