Ratings/Long-term Prospects Comments:  Great documentation online. dcm2nii is the best tool I've found for diffusion imaging DICOM conversion. I like this instead of FSLView for doing simple overlays of stat maps. I especially like that you can give it a list of slice numbers and it will automatically generate an image with the specified slices and an extra orthogonal one with lines marking which slices.

Ratings/Long-term Prospects Comments:  very good with small odities. I've only used it for linux, and a couple of features such as yolking multiple instances is missing, which is a shame.
Other Comments/Similar Tools:  great for figures, and best nifti-compatible tool I've found so far.
