QC-FC associations flat distributions with unsmoothed data, normal distribution with smoothed data, but both NH>95

Dear all,

I first explored the Conn Toolbox using smoothed data for the GM, WM, CSF and further ROIs (functional dataset) and now changed these to the secondary dataset (unsmoothed volumes). I am, however, confused now about the QC-FC associations. In both cases I reach the 95% criterion, but the distributions look very different. If I use the smoothed dataset, the distributions are similiar to what I had expected from the recently published paper on quality control in CONN. If I use unsmoothed data, the distributinos of the QC-FC associations are totally flat, albeit they still reach the NH > 95% criterion. (see attached Figure)

The distributions of the connectivity values instead look slightly worse using the smoothed data before denoising, but similiar using either smoothed or unsmoothed data after denoising.

Analysis space: same as functionals

Analysis mask: tpl MNI Asym.

Thanks a lot for any explanation in advance! I am very unsure, if anything went wrong at this point..

Best,

Anna
