Call for Papers-Emerging Technologies in Point-of-Care Healt Posted By: David Kennedy - Jul 8, 2010Tool/Resource: NITRC Community Call For Papers Special Issue IEEE TBME Letters Emerging Technologies in Point-of-Care Health Care Recent global focus on healthcare issues has stimulated research and development of innovative Point of Care technologies to address many healthcare needs. The rapidly approaching crisis in healthcare costs has critically pointed towards a need for research and development into high effectiveness, low cost means of delivering health care. Novel Point-of-Care sensors and therapeutics devices are required for health monitoring to allow patients to receive results at the time of their visit to a clinician or even to submit their test result to a clinician from home and to multiply the effectiveness of physicians, by preventing extra office visits for results. Similarly, Point-of-Care technologies are needed in many acute care settings where timely access to diagnostic information is critical for providing an effective medical response. Finally, targeted technologies for managing disaster sites are needed to augment the e-Health and medical informatics initiatives for deployment of Point-of-Care technologies in rapid responder and health care. TBME LETTERS is aimed at expedited review and publication of breakthrough research at the leading edge of rapidly emerging technologies and scientific research work with high impact and novelty. TBME Letters publishes short papers (up to 4 printed pages) that are focused on highly novel and time sensitive scientific and technological advances with high potential impact in biomedical applications and healthcare. Our intent is to highlight promising early-stage advances and new ideas that demonstrate feasibility but for which lengthier validation studies have not yet been performed. The Special Issue of IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering (TBME) LETTERS on Emerging Technologies in Point-of-Care Health Care will be published in December 2010. The aim of this Special Issue is to publish highly innovative, novel and exciting research activities in wearable sensors, remote health monitoring, e-Health, telemedicine, and healthcare information management for acute emergency care, clinical disease and even outbreak/disaster situations. All TBME Special Issues have open general calls for contributed papers. Authors are encouraged to write LETTERS for publication in the TBME Letters Special Issue in the wide-spectrum of research areas as following but not limited to: 1. Innovative Wearable Sensors 2.
