Tool/Resource: 1000 Functional Connectomes Project
The 1000 Functional Connectomes Project (FCP) has recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of its initial resting state fMRI (R-fMRI) data-release (12/11/09). One year later, we are happy to say the project continues to amass and distribute new datasets (many now including DTI) through its most recent initiative - the International Neuroimaging Data-sharing Initiative (INDI).

INDI is a next-generation data-sharing effort, with the goal of sharing phenotypically rich imaging datasets, on both retrospective and prospective bases (see for mission statement and introductory presentation). On 10/8/10, the Nathan Kline Institute (NKI) / Rockland Sample led the way for INDI-Prospective, starting weekly uploads of 5-7 subjects / week (R-fMRI, DTI, and extensive psychiatric and cognitive phenotypic data, including IQ), which continue to progress (currently n = 55 and growing!). More recently, the NYU Institute Pediatric Neuroscience released its sample examining cocaine dependence in adults via INDI-Retro. The list of sites pledging data from around the world is growing, and we are working to generate common phenotypic variables across datasets as possible (notice the frequency with which IQ is starting to appear – it’s just one of our targets!).

Now, we are pleased to celebrate the anniversary of the 1000 FCP with the following releases:

** NOTE: Access is granted to all, and data usage is unrestricted for research purposes, but you must register with INDI to download files – access is typically given within 6-10 hours **

INDI Retro (
- The enhanced Beijing FCP Classic Dataset: now including R-fMRI scans and DTI scans for 180 individuals, as well as IQ information (FS-IQ, V-IQ, P-IQ) for 55 of the participants.

INDI Prospective (
1) Beijing: Eyes Open Eyes Closed Study. This sample consists of brand new (unpublished) data for eyes open and eyes closed scans from 48 individuals, as well as DTI.

2) Beijing: Short TR Study. This dataset has short (TR = 400 msecs) and long (TR = 2000 msecs) R-fMRI scans for each individual. The sample will be amassing at a rate of 3-5 / week, and the first 3 subjects are already up!

3) NYU IPN: This will be a long-term sample consisting of datasets from psychiatrically evaluated children, adolescents and adults. The initial release has 49 psychiatrically neurotypical adults, with age, gender and intelligence quotient (IQ) information provided. Future releases will include more comprehensive phenotypic information, and child and adolescent datasets, as well as individuals from clinical populations (upload schedule: 25-50 datasets quarterly).
