I've had a lot of trouble determining this as well. I think it corresponds to 10 nearest neighbors, but I'm still not sure how to translate this to a gaussian kernel level. I'm using HCP data and the HCP pipelines use a 2mm smoothing, so I'm trying 4 initially and examining the surfaces to see if they are jagged.
