RE: Afni and fsl
Most of AFNI should work well on a
virtual machine, except for the SUMA
programs (surface mapping), which are based on OpenGL and hardware
rendering of the surface models. I don't know whether FSL uses OpenGL.
Note that with a virtual machine, one usually limits the RAM to half of what
is available. On a laptop, that means the memory limit might make some
processing difficult. This will apply to any software run on a virtual machine.
Given these 2 limitations, IF you plan to do a lot of processing, then either
the dual boot method or using your mac might be nicer for you. If you just
want to play around with NIfTI images, using a virtual machine might be
sufficient.
Note that nifti_tool is a good program to inspect modify NIfTI headers.

I am using a PC and NOT a mac. Is there a way to get these programs onto a PC? I have been able to "kind of" get FSL on my pc using a vmplayer and opening in a virtual machine.
I am just getting very frustrated as it has slowed down the computer and can not get it to work.
Any idea how to do this, or should I just ditch it and utilize a mac. I have a mac available, but would prefer to use a PC.
Thanks, K
